Nursery School News

At present we have spaces available in all our classrooms, call Trish Dunn        (865) 421-2221 for more information.

There are spaces available in our afternoon classes as well.  This is a great         opportunity for rising kindergarteners to adjust to a longer school day in a         relaxed setting.

Need to get some holiday shopping or cleaning done? Drop-in spaces are             available for the afternoon classes as well!

THANKS FOR A SUCCESSFUL NURSERY SCHOOL APPRECIATION SUNDAY

Nursery school appreciation Sunday was this past Sunday.  The church service was geared towards children and was an upliting meeting for all.  Afterwards there was the bake sale with many yummy treats prepared by our nursery school families and teachers.  THANK YOU to all who donated baked goods for the sale.  We were very successful again this year due to your willingness to provide baked items and due to the generosity of the members of the United Church.  THANK YOU!!!

THANKS TO DR. BETTY DAHL

A big thank you goes out to Dr. Betty Dahl for preparing and leading a discussion on “Gentle Discipline”.  She was able to share ideas and information on the process of teaching children appropriate behavior.  It was a very practical discussion with solid advice on parenting.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

The nursery school will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair the last week of school before Christmas.  Our goal is to sell 170 books, or 2 books per nursery school child.  This will allow the nursery school about $500 of Scholastic dollars to spend on new books for our classrooms and library.  As you know we have been working towards updating our library.  Thank you so much for all the generous donations of books we have already received.  This is another step to making our library more comprehensive.  The book fair will be open Monday, December 17th through Thursday, December 20th each morning at drop off time and each afternoon at pick up time and all morning Friday, December 21st from 8:45 to 12:00 (except during the actual Christmas Sing) for parents, grandparents and children to browse the titles. It will be a good opportunity to pick up a few last minute gifts.  We are in need of nursery school parents (grandparents, friends, caregivers) to volunteer to work the fair.  If you are able to volunteer, please sign up on our website via sign-up genius. Thanks!

MARK YOUR CALENDAR! FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21st,

CHRISTMAS SING IN THE CHAPEL AND COOKIES WITH SANTA

The children and teachers extend a special invitation for all families to attend a Christmas sing in the chapel at 11:00 A.M... Cookies with Santa will follow the sing in the Fellowship Hall. Children who attend MWF can come to the classroom as usual.  Children that attend TTH should be brought to the classroom at 10:30. Miss Shona and Miss Tomoko's class and Miss Patricia and Miss Elissa’s classes will not be singing.  The Half-Pint class will have early pick up and be dismissed at 10:50. We invite the Half-Pint class, the Youngest class and their families to attend the sing and join us for cookies afterwards.   Music teacher Miss Darcy has been working hard with the children and preparing them for the Sing.  This is always a special way to usher in the Christmas holiday.

FOOD DRIVE

Over the next few weeks, the Nursery School will be holding a food drive to benefit the United Church Food Pantry. Donated items will be included in baskets that the church distributes to needy families in the area during the holidays. We request canned or non-perishable items. You can drop them off in the boxes labeled for the food drive, in the main hallway between Monday, November 26th and Thursday, December 13th. The United Church is so generous with the nursery school, this is a great way for us to give back.  Thank you!

REMINDERS

Please be sure to send your child to school with a warm jacket, mittens and closed shoes.  We go outside every day unless the weather is colder than 32°, hotter than 95° or if it’s raining (this is required by the state), so they really need warm clothing on cool days.   If your daughter wears a dress, please have her wear tights or leggings to keep her legs warm.  Please remember to check your child’s locker so they have pants, long sleeved shirts, socks and underwear or diapers, in case of a spill or accident of some kind.  If your child needs to change clothes at school remember to send in a clean set to put back in their lockers.  If your child wears nursery school clothes home, please wash them and send them back to school.  Clothes labeled NS belong to nursery school.   Please label all clothing items! We have many unclaimed items of clothing in the lost in found box located near the main entrance, if you are Missing something, please stop by and check the box. Thanks.

*Parents and teachers are encouraged to communicate information about the children at arrival and departure times.  Parents may also discuss their concerns with the director.  At any time during the year, parents and teachers may request a conference.
