United Church Nursery School, Chapel on the Hill

Nursery School News

At present we have spaces available in all our classrooms, call Trish Dunn        (865) 421-2221 for more information.

There are spaces available in our afternoon classes as well.  This is a great         opportunity for rising kindergartners to adjust to a longer school day in a         relaxed setting.

Need to get some holiday shopping or cleaning done? Drop-in spaces are             available for the afternoon classes as well!

FOOD DRIVE BEGINS:  The annual food drive for non-perishable food items to be placed in the United Church Holiday Food baskets began November 26 and will continue to December 13.  The United Church is very generous with the nursery school, this is a way for us to give back to them and to those in our community who are in need.   The food drive collection box is in the main hallway between the middle and oldest classrooms. Thank you for your help.

CHRISTMAS FAMILY WORKSHOP is this Saturday, December 1 in the Fellowship Hall.  This is sponsored by the United Church and a family activity.  There will be crafts for parents and children to do together and treats for all ages.  The workshop will be open from 10:00-11:30 am in Fellowship Hall. Please RSVP to Trish

OAK RIDGE CHRISTMAS PARADE: The United Church is sponsoring a float in the city Christmas parade on December 8th.  Nursery school families are invited to walk in the parade with the church.  There will be nursery school banners on the float and we will be showing our school pride. If you would like to participate please let Trish know. The parade begins at 6:00pm. If you don’t want to walk the whole way with your preschooler, please feel free to walk as long as you want, then pull off to the side and watch the rest of the parade.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR: This year the nursery school will be hosting a Scholastic Book Fair, December 17th-21st.  The Book Fair will be in Fellowship Hall at drop off and pick up times (8:45-9:30 and 11:40-12:30)

Our goal is selling 2 books/child in the nursery school. The book fair will be open all morning of the Christmas Sing (it will be closed during the actual Sing) allowing for grandparents and family to browse the books for last minute holiday gifts and stocking stuffers. Proceeds from the fair will help us fund the continued update our nursery school library with new books for the children to enjoy in their classrooms.  We are in need of volunteers to work the book fair, please sign up online on sign up genius at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f054eafae2da5ff2-scholastic

*CHRISTMAS SING AND COOKIES WITH SANTA:  The Christmas Sing will be Friday, December 21st at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel. Children who attend on MWF should arrive as usual at 9:00 a.m. and go to their classrooms. Children who attend on TTH only should arrive at 10:30 a.m. and go to their classrooms. The sing will start at 11:00. Children in the youngest class and half-pint class will not be participating in the sing.  The Half-pint class will have an early dismissal at 10:50 am.  We welcome the younger classes to come with their parents and watch the older children sing.  We hope all of you will join us afterwards in the Fellowship Hall for cookies and visit with Santa.  If you are unable to be at the party, please let us know so your child will know not to look for you. Plan to pick your child up early; the party will be over between 11:30 and 12:00 p.m. NO KIDS’ LUNCH IN ON DEC. 21ST.

*COOKIE BAKERS: If you would be willing to bring 2-3 dozen cookies to eat with Santa, please sign the list which is on the bulletin board near the entrance or online. You may bring the cookies to Trish’s office on Thursday, December 20th or Friday, December 21st.

MUFFINS WITH PASTOR RANDY: On December 18th and 19th, Pastor Randy will be in Fellowship Hall with muffins and cider at drop-off time. It is a relaxing way to get to know Pastor Randy and visit with other nursery school parents and this year you can browse the book fair as well.

Classes resume on Tuesday, January 8th.

SNOW DAYS: The Nursery School follows the Oak Ridge Schools’ snow schedule. The Nursery School will be closed if the Oak Ridge Schools are closed or will open one hour late if the Oak Ridge Schools open one hour late. If Oak Ridge is open 2 hours late, nursery school will be closed.   Please listen to the local or Knoxville radio/ TV stations or check the internet (Wbir.com usually has an updated school closing list) for information about school closings. Oak Ridge Schools ARE NOT Anderson County Schools.

*Parents and teachers are encouraged to communicate information about the children at arrival and departure times.  Parents may also discuss their concerns with the director.  At any time during the year, parents and teachers may request a conference.
